Design Progression of the Nederland Skatepark

Airspeed's Chris Berry conducted three public design forums November 3rd, 7th and 10th at the Nederland Youth & Family Center, to arrive at a plan for the Nederland Skatepark. Through an iterative process, where area skateboarders expressed what they liked and disliked about various design alternatives offered by Chris, the following design was agreed upon at the final meeting on November 10th:

Subsequently, Airspeed co-owner Geth Noble returned home from building a skatepark in South Africa and suggested some design modifications which were approved by the NEDSK8 Board:

Construction has been delayed, and is now planned for summer of 2008. Meanwhile, we have had plenty of time to observe the skateboarding preferences of our local youth and nation-wide trends, both of which favor street terrain over vert. Tony Hawk, in reviewing the design,  also recommended that we expand the street area into the space occupied by the mini-bowl. Accordingly, NEDSK8 and Airspeed have worked together through the fall of 2007 to enlarge and improve the street section of the skatepark. We are excited about the resulting design:
